The shoe that was designed for Baron Bich in 1968 (yes, the guy from the BIC-ballpoints!) was the start of the BOTALO brand. This boat shoe was the official boat shoe of the French challenger (the racing yacht France 1) for the America's Cup, in the years '70, '74 and '77.
BOTALO builds on a family tradition of leather workers from the 19th century on the Bordeaux quays. Leather boots were made there for cod fishermen. BOTALO is therefore specialized in developing leather products for the marine environment: sailing boots, deck shoes, sailing gloves and steering wheel and spreaders and scepter protectors etc. BOTALO produces in Europe to keep a keen eye on the high quality of its range.
BOTALO is 'world-famous' in France and supplies hundreds of stores, watersports companies and the French Navy. The quality of the products is so good that the very critical French Navy ordered 4,000 pairs and then another 15,000 pairs of deck shoes!
BOTALO is a partner in international events such as the Olympiads, Tour de France sailing, Route du Rhum and Vendée Globe. Well-known skippers such as Tabarly, Parlier, Colas, Ellen MacArthur, participated in offshore sailing races supported by BOTALO products.
